DesignCrowd is pleased to announce a number of changes to our site and our design brief / order system. These changes affect both customers buying designs as well as our designers. Changes to DesignCrowd include minimum budgets on Design Contests as well as the introduction of fixed price Single Designer Freelance Jobs.
Single Designer, Fixed Price, Freelance Jobs ...
We've added a new type of job to DesignCrowd single designer, fixed price jobs. This project type will be known as a 'Freelance Job' and will replace the old 'Multi Quote' jobs (the main difference being that the new job type requires the customer to set their specific budget up-front). These jobs are perfect for projects that don't suit a design contests. The new process should be faster for customers and eliminate the guess work and crazy low-balling for designers.
Minimum and Recommended Budgets ...
Some big news for designers: we've introduced minimum budgets on ALL projects. Each type of design has an
innate degree of complexity, so we've set different project budgets
depending on the type of design. For example, the minimum for a logo contest is $150 (customers pay a $30 posting fee making the total $180) and the minimum for a web design contest is $280 (again, customer pays a $30 posting fee making the total for the customer $310).
We've introduced minimum budgets in response to strong designer feedback around low budgets. In addition to introducing minimum budgets, we've also introduced recommended budgets - for example, while the minimum budget for a logo design contest is $150 we no have 3 tiers of recommended budgets Economy ($200 for a logo), Standard ($430 for a logo) and First Class ($930 for a logo). For the full list of our new budgets,
please view our new Minimum and Recommended Budgets page (Note: budgets include a US$30 posting fee per project which is included in the minimum budget figures)
Project Upgrades ...
When posting projects, customers can now select options to help promote their project by highlighting their project in our list of projects or paying for their project to be 'featured' so they stay at the top of the project list for longer. Project upgrades are now the new location for making projects private and/or white labelling. We'll be adding more options here in the future so stay tuned!
Improved Briefing ...
The DesignCrowd job brief now includes additional questions around brand, style and other details that are relevant to designers. This should improve the quality of the brief and the result for the client!

Easier to use ...
In general, we've improved how our order system works to make the questioning simpler and easier to use. This will, primarily, benefit customers and if it can help get more projects going through our website, then it will also benefit designers!
In summary: posting design projects on DesignCrowd is awesome!
Designers and customers: pretty please provide us with feedback (in the comments below or via our contact page) and pretty please post your next Design Contest or Freelance Job on DesignCrowd today!
