Welcome to February 29, or leap day - a day exactly like any other except everybody is secretly just a little bit giddy because something slightly out of the ordinary is happening.
A leap year only happens once every four years, because earth's revolution around the sun takes roughly 365 days and six hours, meaning every four years it accumulates an extra day that has to be fitted somewhere to avoid the calendar slowly shifting. Thus – February 29.
Things that are a bit odd have a way of making people feel happy, as they interrupt the routine of adult life and provide an additional safe small talk subject for co-workers when the weather is being particularly un-noteworthy.
While the life of a designer is rarely ever dull or monotonous, and here at DesignCrowd we never need inane small talk to connect, we do love a good quirky thing. Every once in a while, a design contest or logo design crosses our desks that has us take another peak.
These contests may be for unusual businesses, like a rock farm or a lumberjack bakery, or a dinosaur food blog. Or maybe the company is a little bit on the naughty side, like a personal lubricant brand, big nut sacks or (legal) marijuana dispensaries. Or, the designer has just taken a particularly hilarious or ingenious approach to the design brief like the logos/mascots for The Pedaling Pig and CombCat.
